August 2025 Update

Moments of Heartbreak, Hope, and Celebration

Hello to our wonderful Street Angels family!

As the summer days begin to shorten, we’re reaching out to share our August update – a month that has held profound moments of heartbreak, incredible hope, and a very special celebration.

First, we want to share a story that reminds us why this work is so vital. This month, we were able to help a man take a brave step towards recovery. After much encouragement and support, he agreed to enter rehab. His words to Hazel, “You saved my life,” are not a credit to her alone, but to every single one of you who makes this mission possible. It is your support that allows us to be there for people at their most vulnerable, offering a hand up when it’s needed most. This is what hope looks like.

Yet, this work also comes with immense sorrow. It is with heavy hearts that we share the passing of our dear friend and service user, Timmy O’Mahony. Timmy was a familiar and loved face on our rounds, and his loss has been deeply felt by our entire team and community. In the midst of their own grief, the O’Mahony family showed incredible generosity by making a donation to keep our outreach running in Timmy’s memory. This act of kindness in the face of heartbreak is a powerful testament to the love they had for him. Thank you. We will continue to honour Timmy’s memory through our work.

Amidst these deep emotions, we were also blessed with a moment of pure joy. Our beloved Uncle Jerry, a cherished part of our Street Angels community, celebrated his 90th birthday! Jerry, your warmth, your stories, and your resilient spirit are an inspiration to us all. From all of us, but especially from Hazel and Michael, we send you the warmest, most sincere birthday wishes. Thank you for letting us be a part of your incredible journey. Here’s to you!

This month, we’ve been so grateful for the kindness of our trusted partners, who help make our mission possible. A huge thank you to:

  • Fitzpatrick’s Foodstore
  • Donatello’s Pizza
  • Domino’s Pizza
  • Murphy’s Chipper
  • Baker Street Bar
  • Poppa Bills

As always, our volunteers continue to be out on the streets of Cork, night after night, providing meals, essentials, and most importantly, connection. None of this would be possible without our community.

With gratitude for every single one of you,

Hazel, Michael, and The Street Angels Team 💙
