While the winter months bring challenges, they also bring us closer together as we support our friends on the streets and celebrate the small victories that make a world of difference.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Honoring the Lives of Our Friends<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left\">January was a month of mourning for our community as we gathered to hold vigils for Shane O\u2019Sullivan, Shane Grimes, and Tony Kirby. These men were more than just names to us; they were friends, brothers, and a vital part of the fabric of Cork\u2019s streets. We came together to light candles, share stories, and pray for the repose of their souls. Their passing is a heartbreaking reminder of the fragility of life on the margins, and we vow to keep their memories alive through our continued work.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">A Farewell to the Kavanagh Brothers<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Our hearts were particularly heavy as we held a vigil for Dillion and Damien Kavanagh, two brothers who were tragically buried together. Losing family members within the homeless community hits incredibly hard, and seeing them laid to rest together was a poignant moment for everyone who knew them. We continue to offer our prayers and support to their loved ones, remembering the bond they shared and ensuring they are not forgotten by the city they called home.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1400\" height=\"769\" src=\"https:\/\/streetangels.ie\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/02\/vigil.jpeg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-4343\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Dillion and Damien Kavanagh<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">A New Chapter for Our Friend Kieran<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>In the midst of the sadness, we shared a beautiful moment of transformation with our dear friend Kieran. We were honored to help him with a full &#8220;makeover,&#8221; including a fresh haircut, a shave, a hot shower, and a brand-new wardrobe. Beyond his appearance, we also stepped in to help with a deep clean of his living space to ensure he has the dignity and comfort he deserves. Kieran\u2019s journey didn&#8217;t stop there; he recently appeared on Life FM radio, where he spoke wonderfully about his life, his hobbies, and his interests, reminding us all that there is a vibrant person with a story behind every face we see on the street.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"1302\" height=\"779\" src=\"https:\/\/streetangels.ie\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/02\/hazel-and-kieran-on-radio-2.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-4344\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/story.php?story_fbid=1510757214391534&amp;id=100063718081566\">https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/story.php?story_fbid=1510757214391534&amp;id=100063718081566<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Street Angels in the Spotlight: The Irish Independent<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>We were delighted to welcome Kevin Galvin from the Irish Independent, who spent time interviewing our volunteers, our Hazel, and several individuals currently experiencing homelessness. This was a vital opportunity to bring the reality of the housing crisis to a national audience. The resulting article is now live on the Independent website, providing a raw and honest look at the daily struggles and the incredible resilience of the people we serve. We are making an urgent appeal for financial support to keep our van on the road and our supplies stocked.
